Today going to the Tabernacle was a great experience. When we first got to the church I had no idea what a Tabernacle was. Once we began our journey throughout the Tabernacle, I began to understand. Tabernacle is basically a place where functional worship is done. Throughout this there were ten stations. The first station was an introduction about the holy place and the most holy place. The rest of the stations were Linen, Altar of Burnt Offering, Sacrificial animal, Bronze Laver, Golden Boards and Silver bases, Lamp stand, Altar of Incense, the curtain, and the Ark of the Covenant. All of these stations really made me think about how these related to the old testament and the new testament. After going I found out that the Tabernacle was used more in the old testament as the church. As in the new testament it is the church. The one part that made me think was when slaughtering the animals was how people in the old testament loss their sins. While in the New testament Jesus dying on the cross and sacrificing himself lets us be forgiven from our daily sins.
While the audio had flaws, I enjoyed the tabernacle overall and I feel like I really learned a lot. We also learned quite a bit about how the Tabernacle relates to Jesus. The Tabernacle is basically a representation God's dwelling place. From the lampstand which represents God's light, we learned that Jesus is pure light and enables us to see God. Jesus is also the bread of life, the table representing the manger and the cross. There is a curtain which separates the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. The Most Holy Place was closest to God, and only the highest priests could enter it only one day a year. Most importantly, we learned that when Jesus died, the curtain was torn, allowing people to have intimacy with God. Jesus' death represents the new intimacy people could have with God.
I have heard the Tabernacle mentioned many times during Church or when someone is talking about the bible, but I had no idea what it really was. The Tabernacle Experience cleared up any confusion I had on the importance of the Tabernacle and what is function was. The Tabernacle was built because God instructed Moses to build it in order for God to be able to dwell among his people. It is sacred place where God revealed His presence and holiness. The Tabernacle served as the center of the Israelites spritual life. Sacrifice was the most important ritual in the Tabernacle. Sacrifices were taken in order to free yourself and atone your sins. The Tabernacle was a replica of GOd's true dwelling place in heaven, where Jesus serves as high priest but entered the Holy of Holies by His own sacrificial blood(Hebrews 9: 11-25. However, The Tabernacle was no longer needed after The coming of Jesus because when he died on the cross he died for our sins. This meant we no longer needed the burnt offerings because he was that attonment for our sins.
The tabernacle was a very interesting experience for me. I enjoyed each of the stages we went through. I never knew that the pharaohs used the same fine white linen as the Hebrew priests. Then, at the Altar of burnt offering, I found the analogy of Old Testament: New testament to the Altar: Cross and God: Jesus. This can be grouped with my theme because you actually can see the offering being burnt each time something is sacrificed at the altar verses the belief you must have about Jesus dying on the cross for your forgiveness. I could identify my theme at the bronze laver also. I discovered that it displayed the belief that washing your hands in the water cleansed you spiritually as well as the knowledge that it cleansed you physically. At the lamp stand I found my theme in the comparison of the knowledge that God saved the Israelites verses the belief that Jesus saved us from our sins. At the table with communion I found the comparison of belief verses knowledge in how we believe breaking the bread represents the body of Jesus which saved us spiritually, verses how the Israelites knew that the bread was saving them from dying of hunger. The last place I saw my theme was at the Ark of the Covenant. In the Old Testament they knew that the old covenant represented the law verses the New Testament where they believe that new covenant represented life. It was a very meditate experience that calmed me down, which I really enjoyed.
After visiting the Tabernacle on Signal Mountain this past Friday, I learned many different things I didn’t know before. I leaned that the Tabernacle was brought places and set-up instead of being kept in one place. I also learned that at each station we visited through the audio tour that everything was represented in the Old Testament. As you were guided through the exhibit, you heard about the white cloth, burnt offerings, and many others. The burnt offerings were represented by your sins and the white cloth was used to represent cleanliness.
Visiting the Tabernacle Experience exhibit was highly spiritually beneficial to me. In 8th grade, when I was in Old Testament, we had talked about something called a Tabernacle, but I honestly had no idea what it was. Although the audio was not 100% informative, the exhibit as a whole was an excellent reconstruction and we got the majority of the necessary information. It was also exciting that the exhibit was so hands-on. Each and every person who visits the exhibit could actually symbolically experience sacrifice, communion, or even the Arc of the Covenant. It was such a beneficial and educational experience! I'm so glad that people today have an opportunity like this.
