We have asked ourselves and many others "Who was Jesus." Given what you have learned so far, how is the ministry at the Church of the Firstborn reflective of the teachings of Jesus? What was is like for you today to spend time with the kids in their MVP summer program?

ReplyDeleteToday has been one of my favorite days so far of this class. Today we did one of my favorite things ever to do, which is to help out and play with little kids. I love doing this kind of service being able to interact and just really get to know the kids. I really wish we got to stay longer, but hopefully we can go back sometime soon. When we talked to Jonathan he was a very nice and happy guy. He told us that this program that they are doing is called MVP. This goes on eight weeks in the summer from 9 to 3 and the kids get feed breakfast and lunch. He told us that this camp is more zoned for the south side kids. This camp is for kids to get closer to God or just become connected with God. I really think these people are doing a great thing for these little kids. I really hope to visit again and get to help out more around the church.
The Church of the First Born is truly doing amazing things. They have developed a program called MVP which helps inner city kids reconcile a relationship with God. It is an all year long program but we got to see the summer aspect of it. In the summer they have over 100 hundred kids from a range of ages come for an 8 week program. The camp is Monday through Friday from nine to three. They have the kids do various activities and and take them on field trips during the weeks. I think that it is cool how they charge twenty dollars in order to give ownership to the kids that are coming to camp. The program is really helping bring kids to Jesus that otherwise would not have the opportunity to be in such a great environment. The ministry of the Church of the Firstborn is reflective of Jesus and how he said let the little ones come to me and he helped the poor.
ReplyDeleteThe Church of the First Born has a truly unique, awesome program: the MVP program. In this, they target inner city children ages 3-16 to develop a relationship with God as well as have something productive to do during the week. Although just in its summer program, they run throughout the year, with programs including tutoring in the fall. The summer program runs for 8 weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8 to 3. They are served breakfast and lunch, meals they may not get at home. They are also exposed to various activities and take Friday-field trips. While this program is only $20, the children are having irreplaceable experiences and are really being brought up in the proper environment, with love and caring. This ministry is really listening what they know to be their calling and developing children well.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Church of the Firstborn is quite reflective in Jesus' teachings. The MVP program requires $20 at the very most for eight weeks of summer camp. Children, especially inner city kids, who may not have the financial means to attend camps such as Camp Kaleidoscope can still attend the MVP program for a low cost. The MVP program is very unselfish in charging low fees, as raising enough money for staff and food may sometimes prove to be a challenge in these tough economic times. During our visit, I noticed that the staff enforced important rules such as being respectful and not hitting each other, instilling good values in the children as Jesus did. Today's visit to the kdis in the MVP summer program was one of my favorite trips we've taken so far. I felt awkward at first as I don't have much experience with young children, but after a while I really started to enjoy it. I think that spending time at MVP really makes these children happy and I'd love to go back either to volunteer this summer or to tutor children during the school year.
ReplyDeleteToday has been my favorite day by far. I love working with kids, so getting to help out and be a volunteer for a day was like paradise for me. Working at camps as a counselor is my favorite type of service.
ReplyDeleteIn the Bible it says that Jesus also worked with children. Children would come and hear him speak about the word of God.
I think that it is very important to educate the youth about Christianity. Especially kids in bad positions, because Christianity provides kids with reliability when there situation is bad. They can pray to God when things go wrong.
I would be very interested in helping out as a volunteer some more... and it looks like they need our help too.
The ministry at the Church of the Firstborn reflects the teachings of Jesus very well in many different ways. One of the ways is helping the people in need and the people who are less fortunate than we are. They refer to their program of helping inner city children as the MVP Program. I did not get to spend time with the children because I was in the 10-12 year age group and all Eleanor and I did was watch them dance and chat with this other youth group that was there volunteering from a Presbyterian Church. I hope we can go back and work with them again because I thoroughly enjoy working and helping with little kids.
