Please share your thoughts on Mrs. Henegar's visit today. How did this church experience compare to the other two we saw this week? In your opinion, what are a few things a church should have?
I really enjoyed our visit to Mrs. Henegar's home and church. I fell in love with her beautiful cottage, and the story behind it was also quite amazing. In addition, I thought it was lovely how her house was near the creek and there was so much nature around her. Rock Creek Fellowship is quite a unique church for sure. The founders went through a lot of moving to get where they are today. The church we saw was quite lovely and peaceful. Rock Creek Fellowship is also very different from the small and energetic Church of the Firstborn and the huge, overwhelming vibe of Abba's House. I liked all three churches we visited, but Rock Creek Fellowship really stood out because of its unique story and its charming location. It's so amazing that a small group of people could form such a nice church in just a few years. In my opinion, a successful church should have a faithful congregation, something that ties them all together, and strong leaders who are not corrupt. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting Mrs. Henegar's home and church and hearing what she had to say.
I really enjoyed learning from Mrs. Henegar about her home and church. I felt like Mrs. Henegar's locations were more personal. The other church's we have visited have also been beautiful, but their sheer sizes lessened that personal connection that you feel wit God. I felt as if Mrs. Henegar's Church really emphasized nature, humility, and caring. It showed me that size and prestige isn't what makes a church... it is how you worship God, and the fellowship you have with people doing the same thing. It was really difficult for them to get that church started, but it seems to me that God was with them throughout the process. It is amazing to me the amount of luck they had. They were able to meet with people who had a similar need, and find a solution to their problem. They were given places to meet, and received many spontaneous generous donations. To me this is what being a Christian is all about. It is like the story of the Good Samaritan. Mrs. Henegar's Church had a need, and a Baptist church helped them out even though they were a different denomination. Rock Creek has so much potential and I look forward to seeing its future. Overall, this was a fabulous experience for me.
Church means gathering and that is exactly what Rock Creek Fellowship is. Rock Creek Fellowship is a small community church which has an incredible history that makes it such special place. The church started out in a ratty old community center and although the place was old and worn down the church members felt so blessed to have a place to worship. They felt that they because they were so blessed by God they should make is a goal to give away half of what they received. They were able to do this and continue to fix up the community center, but before they knew it their congregation had outgrown the place. They were not worried though and yet again God blessed them with a place to worship. Someone allowed them to use an old building that had been used as furniture shop. The building was perfect and with time they fixed it up and added on. That building is still being used to share Gods word and serve as a place of worship. The building is welcoming and homey and you feel the love of God when you walk in. Rock Creek Fellowship is what I believe a Church should be like. It is warm and you feel like everyone is so real and not putting on a show. I believe that no matter the size, all church's should create an environment where you feel you can be yourself and that you are loved.
Today we got to go visit Mrs. Henager at her beautiful house. First getting there I really did not know what we were going to do, all I saw was just this gorgeous area we were in. I loved the story of how she got her house and how she came up with making a church. She told us the story of how the church was first started. It blows my mind how this beat down ratty place transformed into a real church service today. It was really interesting how both of the churches today were a gift and there was no payment to buy these places. Once she told us the name of the Church is the Rock Creek Fellowship I knew it had to be amazing. First pulling up and seeing the view it took my breath away, and once seeing the whole inside was so cute. I loved the quant look and I felt that if I went there the fellowship would be so great. I really would love to go to a church like this one-day, and I am so glad I got to experience such a beautiful place like this.
I enjoyed meeting with Mrs. Henegar a couple days ago and listening to her stories about her experiences in starting a small church. Her church compared pretty differently to the others we have seen. One obvious comparison is the size of her’s compared to Abba’s House. Another difference is the Christian denomination is different. A third difference is Mrs. Henegar’s church was started by a group of people in a warehouse and the majority of churches are not started exactly the way hers was. In my opinion, I think that the church could build a small altar to model a traditional church. Another thing I think they should have is a more traditional Narthex instead of a hallway-like entrance to the church itself. Overall, I really enjoyed hearing Mrs. Henegar’s story of the church. It was very unique!
I really enjoyed visiting Mrs. Henegar, listening to her marvelous stories about her friends and her opening a church of her own. In contrast to Abba's House, the mega-church on Hixson Pike, Rock Creek Fellowship is obviously much smaller and more personal. In my opinion, a more personal, smaller community is much more beneficial, spiritually, than an overwhelmingly massive 5,000-person community. In comparison to Church of the First Born, however, they are both relatively small, personal communities who can really feed off of one another. In my personal opinion, I feel that a church itself should not be broadcast merely for publicity or be known for its large size. Instead, I feel that a church should be known for the bond between the members and God, no matter the actual size of the building itself. A church is a gathering- not a building.
