The religion of Christianity is extremely influential, comprising a large portion of Earth's population. The holy book of Christianity is known as the Bible, deriving from the Latin word biblia meaning "the books". The Bible essentially teaches Christian morals and the history of Christianity. To be a Christian depends on one's personal beliefs about God, Jesus, and the Bible. Some Christians read the Bible word for word and follow it precisely. This, however, is not required to be a Christian, nor is it the most effective way to worship. For example, the Bible condemns homosexuality and eating pork. Many Christians believe that because of this, they must be against homosexuality also. To be a Christian, one should be able to form their own opinion on such personal matters. While the Bible contains many important lessons and morals, a good Christian should be open minded about their personal opinions and should not limit all of their beliefs to the Bible, which was written thousands of years ago in a much simpler time.
ReplyDeleteBeing a Christian means attending church and participating in church activities regularly. Some activities can include Youth Mission trips and community service projects. It also means you believe that Jesus was God’s son, that he died on the cross, he rose from the dead, he went to Heaven, and he will return someday.
ReplyDeleteTo be a Christian means to love God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your body. It means to be in an active relationship with God. To live your life living righteously and following the Bible’s laws. Being a Christian also means that you advocate that Jesus is the son of God. Also that Jesus died on the cross for our sins to be forgiven and rose again during the resurrection.
ReplyDeleteLike Alise and Anina said, you can fulfill your Christian duty in many ways. If you are not an active person, you can be a Christian by reading the bible, going to church, and through prayer. If you are active, you can go on mission trips, serve others, and go to churchly events. Even listening to Christian music is one way you can demonstrate Christianity.
Being a Christian has a different meaning to everybody, be it a family history of Christianity, or just having a friend in times of need. The textbook definition is believing in the miracles of Christ and believing that Jesus really was/is the only Son of God. However, a more personal definition of being Christian is simply having a friend to rely on; one who will forgive your sins and help you in times of trouble. While many people grow up in a Christian home and may or may not continue their faith throughout their lives, nowadays, there are many people in the world who grow up not in the Christian faith and converting later in life. While there is no complete answer to the original question, "What Does It Mean to Be a Christian?", there are many perspectives and insights through all different angles of Christianity.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard before that being born in a Christian home makes you no more a Christian than being born in a garage makes you a car. I believe that you can go to church all your life and go through the motions and believe that God is real and that he lived long ago but I don’t think that you can classify that person as a Christian. I think that a Christian is someone who simply follows Jesus. It is simple yet it doesn’t mean it’s easy. A Christian loves God and believes he died on the cross for our sins and rose again also a Christian must have a real relationship with God. That means they talk to God and aspire to know more about him person. A Christian spends so much time getting to know God and how he acted that their actions begin to reflect his, much like best friends begin to mimic each other. Their life serves as an example of how Christ lived his life. I think that many people in America today say they are Christian but in actuality a much fewer number actually know what it means to be a Christian and follow God and rely on him as Christians should. Christians should be easily identifiable by their actions yet the term Christian has become common and taken lightly in today’s culture. The word Christian is much like the world gentlemen it has evolved over time to mean something different from its original significance.
ReplyDeleteTo be a Christian means to follow the way of the Lord. To be a Christian means to obey the Ten Commandments and the main thing is to spread the word of God. This means to people who have no idea who God is or to people who really need God in their life. A Christian means to believe that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for our sins. A Christian has a converted heart that strives to do the will of God and lives like Jesus would want them to live. A Christian is not afraid to stand up for his or her beliefs and share his or her faith. A Christian is not perfect from sin but repents and is forgiven because of Jesus dying for us. Most of the world today believes in the faith of Christianity. Most of the knowledge from the religion of Christianity is from the holy book of the Bible. Part of being a Christian is to worship God at church and to talk to God through prayer.
